Guitar Lessons Chichester
Tuesday Evenings from 4:30pm
For over 12 years, Guitar Academy has been helping people in Petersfield discover the joy of playing guitar. Our experienced tutors have guided hundreds of students – from absolute beginners to advanced players – through fun, supportive, and inspiring lessons.
We are now excited to expand into Chichester with a brand-new programme. Unlike our Petersfield branch, which offers both private and group tuition, the Chichester service is dedicated exclusively to small-group guitar lessons. Using the world-renowned Rockschool method, these sessions give students the chance to learn in a structured, progressive way while also developing teamwork, confidence, and social skills.

The people at Guitar Academy not only play well, but are also encouraging and skillful teachers. My only regret is that I didn’t find them earlier.

4:30pm Beginners (Debut / Grade 1) Ages 7–11
Best for: Kids who are brand new or have a little experience and are ready to start structured progress.
You should be comfortable with (or happy to learn immediately):
Holding the guitar correctly, basic picking/strumming
Simple riffs on 1–2 strings and basic rhythm patterns
Changing between 1–3 easy chords (can be slow at first!)
Following along with a tutor using tab/diagrams and counting
Not needed: Fast playing, barre chords, music theory knowledge.
5:10pm — Beginners (Debut) — Ages 7–11
Best for: Total beginners (or kids who’ve tried a bit but need the basics locked in).
You’ll learn from the ground up:
Names of parts of the guitar, how to tune (or how to check tuning)
Simple one-string / two-string riffs
Basic strumming feel (downstrokes, simple patterns)
Easy chord shapes and clean fretting (no buzzing)
Not needed: Prior lessons, confident chord changes, reading music.
5:50pm — Beginners (Grade 2) — Ages 17+
Best for: Adults/older learners who can already play basic songs and want the “next step up.”
You should already have:
Confident changes between common open chords (in time, most of the time)
Ability to play along to a steady beat (metronome/backing track)
Basic strumming control (not just random up/down)
Some experience learning riffs/songs (tab is fine)
Likely to include: More consistent timing, slightly quicker changes, more varied rhythms, and expanding your chord/riff vocabulary.
Not ideal if: You’re still struggling to fret cleanly or can’t yet switch between basic chords.
6:30pm — Beginners (Grade 1) — Ages 17+
Best for: Adults/older learners who are beginners but ready for a structured “proper start.”
You should be able to (or will learn quickly):
Play a few simple chords/riffs (even if slow)
Keep a steady pulse with guidance
Use tab/diagrams to follow parts
Do basic picking/strumming with some control
Not needed: Barre chords, speed, lead playing experience.
7:10pm — Intermediate (Grade 3/4) — Ages 17+
Best for: Players who are past beginner stage and want more challenge, tighter performance skills, and more musical control.
You should already be comfortable with:
Playing full songs with consistent timing (or close!)
Faster chord changes + more chord types (including some barre/power chord work)
Riffs across multiple strings and basic lead lines
Changing between sections smoothly (verse/chorus/bridge)
Likely to include: More detailed technique (muting, dynamics, articulation), more demanding rhythms, longer sections to remember, and playing more confidently with others.
