Quality guitar tuition coming to the heart of Alton

Guitar Academy is expanding into Alton, bringing the same structured, fun group guitar tuition that families across Petersfield already trust. Whether your child attends Amery Hill School, Alton School, or Eggar’s in nearby Holybourne, this is a brilliant opportunity to take up an instrument in a social, supportive setting — without the cost of one-to-one lessons.

We’re welcoming enquiries from families across Alton and the surrounding villages — including Holybourne, Beech, Four Marks, Chawton, and Bentworth. Wherever you’re based in the area, this programme has been designed to be accessible, structured, and genuinely enjoyable.

Lessons follow the Rockschool framework — the UK’s leading contemporary music syllabus — and are delivered by experienced, DBS-checked tutors. Register below to receive priority notification when booking opens for Autumn 2026.

Why Alton?

Alton is one of North Hampshire’s most family-oriented market towns, with a strong community around its schools and local organisations. From the families of Holybourne to the villages stretching towards Four Marks and Chawton, there’s a real appetite for creative, skills-based activities that children can grow with. Guitar Academy’s group model is perfectly suited to this kind of tight-knit community — where music becomes a shared experience, not just a private lesson.

How It Works

🎸

Learning through songs

Students learn real songs from day one. It keeps motivation high and progress visible — parents notice it too.

🤝

A social skill for life

Group lessons build confidence and camaraderie. Students encourage each other and often practise together between sessions.

🎵

Grades are optional

We follow the Rockschool framework but exams are never compulsory. Play for fun or work towards recognised grades — your choice.

🌍

Join a local guitar community

You’re not just signing up for lessons — you’re joining a local community of young musicians who play, progress and perform together.

Expert, DBS-checked tutors

Every Guitar Academy tutor is experienced, DBS-checked, and trained to teach groups of mixed ability. Your child is in safe, expert hands.

📍

Proven across Hampshire

Our approach is already delivering results in Petersfield. We’re now bringing the same programme to Alton and the surrounding area.

Who is it for?

Our group guitar lessons welcome complete beginners and those with a little experience. This programme suits:

  • Children aged 7+ at Amery Hill School, Alton School, or Eggar’s in Holybourne
  • Teenagers looking for a creative outlet alongside school commitments
  • Adults from Alton, Holybourne, Beech, Four Marks, Chawton and beyond
  • Anyone who’s always wanted to learn but found private lessons too expensive
  • Families wanting a shared musical activity — siblings can often join the same group

No guitar? No problem. We can advise on affordable starter instruments and many students borrow one initially before deciding to invest.

The Rockschool Framework

All Guitar Academy lessons are built on the Rockschool syllabus — the UK’s most popular contemporary music grading system, recognised by universities and conservatoires. Students learn real songs across rock, pop, blues, and acoustic.

Our tutors have achieved a 100% pass rate across all Rockschool examinations. Grades run from Debut through to Grade 8, with performance awards at every level. Whether your child wants to play for fun or work towards a qualification, Rockschool supports both paths.

Lessons are carefully paced so no one is left behind — mixed-ability groups work together, with tutors ensuring every student makes progress at every session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where exactly will lessons take place in Alton?

We’re currently confirming a central Alton venue for our Autumn 2026 launch. We’re prioritising a location that’s easy to reach from Holybourne, Beech, Four Marks, and surrounding villages. All registered families will receive venue details as soon as they’re confirmed.

When do lessons start?

We’re planning to launch in Alton for Autumn 2026. Register your interest now to receive priority booking information ahead of the general launch.

Does my child need any experience to join?

No experience needed at all. Our groups welcome complete beginners and are structured so that students with a little prior experience also thrive. Mixed-ability groups are the norm and our tutors are skilled at pacing sessions for everyone.

Do students have to take Rockschool exams?

Absolutely not. Rockschool graded exams are available and we’re proud of our 100% pass rate, but they’re entirely optional. Many students play purely for fun and never take an exam — and that’s completely fine.

How much do lessons cost?

A term of 10 group guitar lessons costs £180 — that’s just £18 per lesson. Compare that to private tuition (typically £40–£60/hour) and you can see why group lessons are such excellent value, especially for families with more than one child interested in joining.

Do students need their own guitar?

Students should aim to have access to a guitar for home practice, but you don’t need one on day one. We can recommend affordable starter instruments and advise on what to look for.

Is there a cost to register my interest?

No — registering your interest is completely free. It simply puts you on our priority list so you hear about Alton bookings before anyone else. There’s no obligation until you formally book a place.

The people at Guitar Academy not only play well, but are also encouraging and skillful teachers. My only regret is that I didn’t find them earlier.
