Expert guitar tuition coming to New Alresford this autumn

Guitar Academy is expanding into Alresford, bringing the same structured, social guitar programme that families in Petersfield already love. Whether your child attends Perins School or one of the area’s primary schools, this is a brilliant way to start a musical journey — in a group setting that’s encouraging, affordable, and genuinely fun.

We’re welcoming registrations from across the Alresford area, including Bishops Sutton, Itchen Abbas, and Ropley. The rolling downland villages around New Alresford have a strong community spirit, and we want guitar lessons to be part of that local life — not just an afterthought.

New Alresford is rightly famous for the Mid-Hants Watercress Line — a community landmark that speaks to what makes this area tick: pride in local heritage and a commitment to keeping things special. Guitar Academy shares those values. Register below and be first in line when Autumn 2026 bookings open.

Why Alresford?

New Alresford is a quintessentially Hampshire market town — prosperous, community-minded, and proud of what makes it different. Families here are engaged and active, and there’s a real appetite for high-quality, structured activities that children can grow with over years, not just weeks. Guitar lessons offer exactly that: a skill for life, a social outlet, and something genuinely rewarding that sits alongside school and sport. The surrounding villages — Bishops Sutton, Itchen Abbas, Ropley — add to the catchment, making Alresford an ideal hub for a Guitar Academy programme.

How It Works

🎸

Learning through songs

Students learn real songs from day one. It keeps motivation high and progress visible — parents notice it too.

🤝

A social skill for life

Group lessons build confidence and camaraderie. Students encourage each other and often practise together between sessions.

🎵

Grades are optional

We follow the Rockschool framework but exams are never compulsory. Play for fun or work towards recognised grades — your choice.

🌍

Join a local guitar community

You’re joining a growing community of young musicians across mid-Hampshire who play, progress and perform together.

Expert, DBS-checked tutors

Every Guitar Academy tutor is experienced, DBS-checked, and trained to teach groups of mixed ability. Your child is in safe, expert hands.

📍

Proven across Hampshire

Our approach is already delivering results in Petersfield. We’re now bringing the same programme to Alresford and the Itchen Valley.

Who is it for?

Our group guitar lessons are open to complete beginners and those with a little experience. This programme suits:

  • Children aged 7+ at Perins School and local primary schools in the Alresford area
  • Teenagers from Alresford, Bishops Sutton, Itchen Abbas, and Ropley
  • Adults who’ve always wanted to learn but never found the right opportunity
  • Families wanting a shared musical activity — siblings can often join the same group
  • Anyone who finds one-to-one lessons too pressured or too expensive

No guitar? No problem. We can advise on affordable starter instruments and many students borrow one initially before deciding to invest.

The Rockschool Framework

All Guitar Academy lessons are built on the Rockschool syllabus — the UK’s most popular contemporary music grading system, recognised by universities and conservatoires. Students learn real songs across rock, pop, blues, and acoustic.

Our tutors have achieved a 100% pass rate across all Rockschool examinations. Grades run from Debut through to Grade 8. Whether your child wants to play for fun or work towards a qualification, Rockschool supports both paths.

Lessons are carefully paced so no one is left behind — mixed-ability groups work together, with tutors ensuring every student makes progress at every session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where exactly will lessons take place in Alresford?

We’re currently confirming a central New Alresford venue for Autumn 2026, looking for a location convenient for families from Bishops Sutton, Itchen Abbas, and Ropley. All registered families will receive full venue details as soon as they’re confirmed.

When do lessons start?

We’re planning to launch in Alresford for Autumn 2026. Register now to receive priority booking information ahead of the general launch.

Does my child need any experience to join?

No experience needed. Our groups welcome complete beginners and are structured so that students with a little prior experience also thrive. Mixed-ability groups are the norm.

Do students have to take Rockschool exams?

Absolutely not. Rockschool graded exams are available and we’re proud of our 100% pass rate, but they’re entirely optional. Many students play purely for fun and never take an exam.

How much do lessons cost?

A term of 10 group guitar lessons costs £180 — just £18 per lesson. Compare that to private tuition (typically £40–£60/hour) and you can see the value, especially for families with more than one child interested.

Do students need their own guitar?

Students should aim to have access to a guitar for home practice, but you don’t need one on day one. We can recommend affordable starter instruments.

Is there a cost to register my interest?

No — registering is completely free. It simply puts you on our priority list so you hear about Alresford bookings before anyone else.

The people at Guitar Academy not only play well, but are also encouraging and skillful teachers. My only regret is that I didn’t find them earlier.
