## What actually happens
You book a 45-minute slot and step into a fully equipped rehearsal studio as the lead guitarist in a real band line-up. No backing tracks. No metronome clicks. A live rhythm section, a proper rig, and the whole room listening to what you play.
Because slots are individual, the band is there for you alone — you’re not queuing behind a room of other players waiting for a turn. You’ll work through material with them, get the feel of holding the lead chair, and find out what your playing sounds like when it’s supported rather than solitary.

## Acoustic or Electric: Which Should a Beginner Choose?
This is the first question almost every new guitarist asks, and the honest answer is: **it depends on the music you want to play**.
There is a persistent myth that beginners should always start on acoustic because it builds finger strength. This is not really true — and it puts a lot of people off. If someone wants to play rock or blues and you put a classical acoustic in their hands, they are going to lose interest fast.

Does my child need their own guitar?
Not at the start. We can provide a guitar for them to use in lesson. If they decide they want to continue we can advise on what would be affordable starter guitars to use at home. There is also the option to rent a guitar from us to use at home.
Do you offer Rockschool grades?
Yes, we are experienced in preparing students for rockschool grades at all levels. These are optional but a good option if you are looking for structure and to earn recognised qualifications.
How long are the lessons?
We provide 30 mins, 45 mins and 1 hour lessons. We can advise on availability and frequency when you contact us. For younger learners we recommend a 30 minute lesson.

Guitar Academy is coming to Haslemere. Named Surrey’s best place to live in 2025, Haslemere sits on the Surrey-Hampshire border with one of the most culturally engaged, community-minded populations anywhere in the south of England — and it’s exactly the kind of place where we thrive.

THE ROCKSCHOOL FRAMEWORK

The Rockschool syllabus is used by hundreds of thousands of students worldwide. It’s built around contemporary music — rock, pop, blues, indie — the kind of music people actually want to play.
We use it as our framework because it works. Clear, logical progression from basic rhythm and chord shapes through to full song performance. Nobody gets stuck, bored, or held back.
**Sitting grades is entirely optional.** If you want a recognised Rockschool qualification — Debut through to Grade 8 — that pathway is fully supported. We have a 100% pass rate.

What is Guitar Academy?
Guitar Academy is a professional guitar school based in Petersfield, Hampshire, with an additional location in Chichester, West Sussex. We offer one-to-one guitar and bass lessons, group lessons, and online tuition for all ages and abilities — from complete beginners to advanced players preparing for graded exams. We also offer guitar hire, repairs, and access to a recording studio.

Are your tutors qualified and DBS checked?
Yes. All Guitar Academy tutors are fully DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked and bring years of professional playing and teaching experience to every lesson. This means parents can feel confident sending their children to us, and all students can learn in a safe, professional environment.

## Lessons
What types of guitar lessons do you offer?
We offer one-to-one lessons, group lessons, and online lessons. One-to-one sessions are the most personalised and can be scheduled weekly, fortnightly, or as needed. Group lessons run as short courses and are a great option for beginners who enjoy learning alongside others. Online lessons are available for students who cannot attend in person.
Do you teach acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and bass?
Yes — we teach acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and bass guitar. Whether you want to strum along to your favourite songs on an acoustic or master electric technique and theory, our tutors can guide you. We tailor every lesson to your instrument, goals, and musical taste.
What age do you have to be to start guitar lessons?
We welcome students of all ages. Young children (typically from around age 6–7 upwards) through to adults and seniors are all catered for. Our tutors adapt their teaching style to suit the age, learning style, and musical interests of each individual student.
Do I need any experience to join?
No experience is needed at all. We welcome complete beginners and will start you from scratch, covering how to hold the guitar, basic chords, and reading music or tablature if relevant. We also work with intermediate and advanced players looking to develop specific skills or prepare for exams.
Can I learn the songs I actually want to play?
Absolutely — this is central to how we teach. Everyone has different musical tastes, and our tutors will incorporate the songs and artists you love into your lessons wherever possible. Learning music you’re passionate about makes lessons more enjoyable and helps you progress faster.
Do you offer online guitar lessons?
Yes. Online lessons are available via video call for students who prefer to learn from home or who live outside our immediate area. Online lessons cover everything that in-person lessons do and are a great flexible option for busy schedules or students further afield.
## Graded Exams
Do you prepare students for guitar grade exams?
Yes. We have over 12 years of experience coaching students through graded guitar examinations and maintain a 100% pass rate. We prepare students for exams with Trinity College London, Rockschool (RSL Awards), and RGT (Registry of Guitar Tutors). Whether you want to sit an exam or simply use the syllabus as a structured framework for learning, we can help.
Do I have to take exams?
Not at all. Exams are entirely optional. Many of our students learn purely for the enjoyment of playing without ever sitting a formal examination. We tailor your learning pathway to your own goals, whether that means pursuing grades or simply learning to play the music you love.

How much do guitar lessons cost?
Our one-to-one lesson prices are:

Group lesson courses start from around £180 for a 10-week course. Prices represent excellent value for professional, personalised tuition in the Hampshire and West Sussex area.
How do I pay for lessons?
We accept cash, credit and debit cards, BACS bank transfer, and online payments. You can also purchase gift vouchers for lessons online — ideal for birthdays or Christmas gifts.
Do you offer gift vouchers for guitar lessons?

## Guitar Hire & Repairs
Do I need to have my own guitar to start lessons?
No — we offer a guitar hire scheme so you can start learning straight away without the upfront cost of buying an instrument. We offer a one-month introductory rental at a low rate, followed by a rolling monthly contract with no long-term commitment. When you’re ready to buy, your rental payments count toward a discounted purchase price. All rental guitars are professionally set up and maintained.

Where can I find guitar lessons near Petersfield?
Guitar Academy is based in the centre of Petersfield at Unit 4, Penns Road, GU32 2EW — making us the ideal choice for anyone in Petersfield and the surrounding villages including Liss (4 miles), Sheet (1 mile), Steep (2 miles), Buriton (2 miles), Stroud (3 miles), East Meon (5 miles), West Meon (7 miles), and Clanfield (7 miles).
Do you offer guitar lessons near Liphook or Haslemere?
Yes — our Petersfield studio is easily reachable from Liphook (around 7 miles), Haslemere (around 9 miles), and Hindhead (around 10 miles) via the A3. Many of our students travel from these towns for their weekly lessons. Online lessons are also available if the journey isn’t practical every week.
Can I find guitar lessons near Bordon or Alton?
Petersfield is approximately 8 miles from Bordon and around 13 miles from Alton. Students from both towns regularly attend lessons at our Petersfield studio. If the commute is too far, we also offer fully flexible online lessons so you can learn with our professional tutors from home.
Do you offer guitar lessons near Waterlooville, Horndean or Havant?
Our Petersfield studio is about 11 miles from Horndean and around 14 miles from Waterlooville and Havant. These are very manageable distances for a weekly lesson. Alternatively, our Chichester studio at 104 The Hornet, PO19 7JR may be closer for some students from South East Hampshire.
Do you offer guitar lessons near Midhurst or Petworth?
Yes — our Petersfield studio is around 12 miles from Midhurst, and our Chichester location is approximately 11 miles from Petworth and 12 miles from Midhurst. Both studios serve the wider West Sussex and South Downs area. Contact us to discuss which location would suit you best.
Do you offer guitar lessons near Chichester?
Yes — our Chichester studio is located at 104 The Hornet, Chichester, PO19 7JR, right in the heart of the city. How do I book a lesson?
You can book a lesson by getting in contact with us or using our online booking form. If you can’t find a slot you are looking for, please contact us and we will be happy to help.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept various payment methods, including cash, credit/debit cards and bank transfers.
Do I need a guitar to get started?
No! it obviously will help for you to own a guitar eventually but if you are not sure whether Guitar is for you yet, then come have a few lessons, use our guitars or even rent one from us until you are sure.
What age is a good age to start?
We teach all ages and abilities and everyone is different. We feel like 7 years old is a good age to get started.
Do I need to be able to read music?
Not at all, unless thats your goal. All lessons are tailored to suit you so whatever aspirations you will be in good hands.
Are you CRB / DBS checked?
Yes, all tutors are DBS checked and undergo safeguarding awareness CPD.

At Guitar Academy we want you to be completely happy with every lesson, voucher and product you buy from us. This policy explains how refunds, returns and exchanges work. If anything is unclear, [email us](mailto:info@guitaracademyuk.com) — we’re always happy to help.
## 🎸 Guitar lessons
If you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson, please give us as much notice as possible. Lesson cancellation and rescheduling terms are set out on our [Policies](https://guitaracademyuk.com/policies/) page.
If you have paid for a block of lessons and can no longer continue, contact us and we’ll refund any unused lessons, minus lessons already taken at the standard single-lesson rate. Refunds are made to your original payment method.
## 🎁 Gift vouchers
Gift vouchers can be refunded within 14 days of purchase provided they have not been redeemed. Once a voucher has been partially or fully redeemed against lessons or products, it can no longer be refunded. Vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
## 📦 Shop products — gifts & accessories
Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations, you have the right to cancel an online order within 14 days of receiving your items, and a further 14 days to return them. To be eligible for a return, items must be unused, in their original condition and in the original packaging.
To start a return, email with your order number and we’ll confirm the return address and next steps. Please don’t send items back without contacting us first.
Return postage is your responsibility unless the item is faulty or we sent the wrong item, in which case we’ll cover it. For higher-value items we recommend a tracked postal service, as we can’t refund items that don’t reach us.
## ⚠️ Faulty or damaged items
If anything arrives faulty or damaged, let us know within 30 days and we’ll offer a replacement or a full refund, including postage. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are not affected by anything in this policy.
## 💳 Refund processing
Once we’ve received and checked your return, we’ll email you to confirm and process your refund to the original payment method. Refunds usually appear within 5–10 working days depending on your bank or card provider.

## Group guitar lessons in Midhurst — learn songs, make friends, keep playing
Guitar Academy is coming to Midhurst. Following the success of our Petersfield studio and Chichester group sessions, we’re launching something new — group guitar lessons built around real songs, real progress, and a real sense of community.
We use the Rockschool framework as our backbone — a world-class, proven structure that takes you from beginner to confident player. But the grades are optional. What matters here is the music: learning to play the songs you actually love, developing at your own pace, and doing it alongside other people who share your passion.
**For younger players**, it’s about building confidence, developing social skills, and discovering a love of music in a fun and supportive setting. **For adults**, it’s a chance to join a growing network of local guitar players — people to jam with, share progress with, and play music alongside long after the course ends.

Every lesson is built around playing real music. The Rockschool framework guides the difficulty, but you’re always learning through actual songs — not dry exercises. You’ll hear yourself improving week by week.

THE ROCKSCHOOL FRAMEWORK
## A world-class structure — without the pressure
The Rockschool syllabus is used by hundreds of thousands of students across the UK and internationally. It’s built around contemporary music — rock, pop, blues, indie — the kind of music people actually want to play.
We use it as our framework because it works. It gives every student a clear, logical progression — from the very basics of rhythm and chord shapes through to full song performance — ensuring nobody is stuck, bored, or held back.
But here’s the key: **sitting grades is entirely optional**. You don’t have to take an exam to benefit from this system. The framework simply ensures you’re always learning at the right level, tackling music of the right difficulty, and building genuine skills — not just muscle memory.
If you do want to work towards a recognised Rockschool qualification — from Debut through to Grade 8 — that pathway is fully supported and we have a 100% pass rate.

When will group guitar lessons start in Midhurst?We’re currently gathering interest and will confirm start dates once we have enough registrations to form groups. **We’re aiming to launch in Autumn 2026** — register now and you’ll be first to know. We’ll be in touch well ahead of the start date so you can plan ahead.
Do I need any experience to join?None at all. Our group lessons are designed for complete beginners as well as those with a little experience. The Rockschool framework means you’ll always be working at the right level — not too easy, not overwhelming.
Do you have to sit Rockschool exams?No — exams are completely optional. We use the Rockschool syllabus as a framework to ensure you’re learning at the right level and progressing through music of appropriate difficulty. Many students love the structure without ever sitting a formal grade. If you do want to work towards a recognised qualification, that path is there for you — and we have a 100% pass rate.
What kind of songs will we learn?The Rockschool repertoire covers rock, pop, blues and contemporary styles — the kind of music people actually want to play. Within sessions there’s also flexibility to explore songs that the group enjoys. The goal is always to make music that feels meaningful and satisfying to play.
What age groups will you run sessions for?We welcome all ages. We’ll run separate groups for children and adults depending on demand — so let us know your age group (or your child’s) when you register and we’ll plan accordingly.
Do I need my own guitar?Not to begin with. We can advise on suitable starter guitars and also offer a rental scheme so you can get started without a big upfront cost. We’ll talk you through the options when you register.
Is there any cost to register my interest?No — registering is completely free and carries no obligation. We’ll keep you updated as plans develop and let you know as soon as places are available. You choose whether to book when the time comes.

This is a guitar course for adults who have never played a note — no experience, no theory, no idea what a barre chord is. Everyone starts on week one at exactly the same place, which is a much easier room to walk into than you might think.
We meet for an hour every Thursday evening at 7.30pm at our Petersfield studio on Penns Road. Groups are kept small so you're not learning from the back of a crowd, and the course is structured week by week — you'll know what you're working on and why.
